Content marketing is not the traditional type of marketing, but it is marketing regardless. Many people think that content marketing is dead or not important, which is not the case since you just looked up stuff on Google. However, people often compare content marketing to SEO. Content marketing is the method by which we create and share valid and useful content that will market our products or services. This content can include articles/blog posts, podcasts, videos, and others that attract your target audience. When you provide your potential customers with helpful and relevant information regarding your product/service in any form, you are building a relationship with them.
In addition, this is going to be a long-term relationship, which will boost your sales. A great example of this would be me, I create content in the form of blog posts at Portkey SEO. I write and share these blogs for the audience who is interested in reading well-researched and relevant blogs on these topics. This means that my focus is on creating good quality content for my audience so that I build a good relationship with them.
I want to write content that has the solutions to the queries of my target audience if I want a long-term good relationship with them. With content marketing, you establish yourself as a knowledgeable leader in a particular industry, so people trust you and your services.
What is SEO?
Search Engine Optimization or SEO is the strategy to optimize your website’s highest ranking on search engines for higher organic traffic. This means that with the use of SEO strategies, your website will be visible on the first page of the Search Engine Results Page (SERPs). If you want to know more about SERPs, we have a separate blog about them!
However, why is it so important to rank and appear on the first page of SERPs? This is because most people never even bother to look at the second page of SERPs. You need to write content that empathizes with the users’ search intent and their queries. Your content should answer their queries; it should be relevant.
Which should I focus on Content Marketing or SEO?
I would put this out now that BOTH are important. Why is that? To understand, let us say you wrote a very informative article on “Importance of Digital Marketing.” You wrote a very useful and relevant article and answered all the queries of the users. Your content will be appreciated by whoever reads it, and they might share it. However, no matter how well you wrote the content, if it is not optimized, it is not searchable. If your article is not searchable, it means that when the user puts in their query, your article does not appear on the first page.
To rank on the first page, you need to optimize that content, and to do that you need to use SEO. Likewise, if you have optimized your content using SEO practices, but your content lacks relevant information, you still will not rank. This means that you cannot just stuff keywords into any irrelevant content to rank your article on SERPs. Therefore, you need both content marketing and SEO to rank on SERPs.
